Fresno Grizzlies News Release
The Fresno Grizzlies fell 7-5 Sunday afternoon to the Colorado Springs Sky Sox. The Sky Sox scored three runs in the eighth inning off losing Grizzly reliever Jandel Gustave (1-2) and received a two-inning save by righty Jacob Barnes.
The Sky Sox scored first in the top of the third when an attempted pick-off attempt went awry. After Fresno catcher Tyler Heineman threw behind Nate Orf, Danny Worth tried to get Orf at third, but the ball sailed into the dugout allowing Orf to score. The error gave Colorado Springs the 1-0 lead.
In the fourth, Colorado Springs extended their lead to 2-0 after a bloop single to right by Josmil Pinto, scoring Orlando Arcia.
The Grizzlies scored in the bottom of the fourth after an error by Sky Sox shortstop Orlando Arcia, cutting the score to 2-1.
In the top of the fifth Colorado Springs added another run off of three straight singles, the third for an RBI by Yadiel Rivera. Two batters later, Eric Young hit into a double play, allowing another run to score. Sky Sox continued to lead 4-1.
Fresno added a run in the bottom of the fifth making it 4-2 after Max Stassi (2-for-4) homered to deep center. It was Stassi's first homer of the season.
Grizzlies' starter Brad Peacock picked up a no-decision in a five inning effort. He surrendered seven hits, four runs (three earned), walking one and striking out four.
Stassi wasn't done as his next at-bat in the sixth was a laser double into left-center scoring Tyler Heineman. Leadoff hitter Andrew Aplin then gave Fresno their first lead 5-4, crushing a two-run homer to right, scoring Stassi.
The Sky Sox retook the lead in the top of the eighth 7-5. Will Middlebrooks hit a two-run double scoring Pinto and Garin Cecchini while Orf hit a ground rule double knocking in Middlebrooks. Those would be the last runs of the game as the Grizzlies fell 7-5.
The two teams meet for the final time this regular season Monday morning at 11:05 a.m. at Chukchansi Park in Downtown Fresno. Tomorrow's game will finish off an eight-game homestand for the Grizzlies before they head to Albuquerque for four games Tuesday through Friday. Fresno RHP Cesar Valdez (2-0, 2.79) will face Colorado Springs RHP Jorge Lopez (1-3, 6.25).
