New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

Don Kelly's two-out single in the bottom of the sixth drove in the go-ahead run, and the New Orleans Zephyrs edged the Tacoma Rainiers on Sunday afternoon, 2-1.

The Zephyrs have bounced back from suffering a four-game sweep at the hands of Reno to take two of the first three games from Tacoma, whose 30-20 record is the best in the Pacific Coast League.

With the game tied 1-1 in the sixth, Rainiers starter Donn Roach issued a two-out walk to Kenny Wilson, who stole second base for his 14th steal of the season. Kelly then stroked a single to right field to score Wilson.

It was one of only four hits on the afternoon for the Zephyrs, as Roach and Z's starter Jarred Cosart dueled for six-plus innings.

Cosart (2-3) scattered six hits in six innings and worked around four walks to limit the Rainiers to one run.

Tacoma loaded the bases with no outs in the sixth but had to settle for one run on a bloop single by Dario Pizanno, as Cosart induced an inning-ending double play from Tyler Smith.

After Kelly's single in the bottom half put New Orleans ahead, Craig Breslow worked two hitless innings, and Cody Hall retired the side in order in the ninth to pick up his first save.

The Z's took advantage of a Tacoma fielding error in the third to grab a 1-0 lead. Adrian Nieto singled with two outs, Wilson followed with a double into the gap in right-center field, and Boog Powell misplayed the ball, allowing Nieto to scamper home with an unearned run.

Roach (4-3) was the hard-luck loser, allowing just two runs - one earned - in seven innings.

The Zephyrs wrap up the series and the homestand on Monday with a 1 p.m. start.
