Redbirds Best Offensive Performance Falls Short, Lose 17-14 Nick Martini Goes 4-for-5 at the Plate; Memphis Scores Season-High 14 Runs LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Despite Memphis (19-27) having their best offensive performance of the season scoring 14 runs and hitting 17 times, Las Vegas (26-22) also scored a season-high 17 runs and hit 21 times to overpower the Redbirds, 17-14.
Nick Martini tied the season-high for most hits by a Redbird with four and went 4-for-5 on the day. This was the first four-hit game for Martini since September 1, 2014, when he as a member of the Springfield Cardinals. Charlie Tilson went 3-for-6 today in the lead off spot and has gone 10-for-29 on the current road trip for the Redbirds.
Mike Ohlman and Patrick Wisdom each had a home run in the top of the eighth to help the Redbirds get back in to the game and finished going a combined 4-for-7 at the plate and each picked up a pair of RBI. David Washington also had two hits on the night and has now hit safely in 17 of 21 games he has played in.
Eight hitters for Las Vegas were able to hit at least twice tonight and the first six batters in the line up combined to go 16-for-34 at the plate and had a total of nine runs batted in.
J.C. Sulbaran struggled in his tenth start of the season throwing just 3.2 innings and giving up 10 runs for the second straight outing this year. Sulbaran has now lost four straight starts and has yet to win as a starter since April 13. In relief, Heath Wyatt and Kurt Heyer threw a combined 4.1 innings and gave up seven runs on 11 hits.
The Redbirds look to get back on track in game three of their four-game series tomorrow at 2:05 p.m. (CT) before the Redbirds return to AutoZone Park for four games May 31-June 3. The Tuesday-Friday homestand features King Cotton $1 Hot Dog Night on Tuesday, May 31, all-you-can-eat wings with a special ticket purchase on Thursday, June 2 and a replica Cardinals 1946 World Series ring giveaway on Friday, June 3.
Friday is also FedEx St. Jude Classic Theme Ticket night, and for $30 fans can get a Field Box ticket to the game and a one-day ticket to the golf tournament. The first 1,000 also receive a "Hush Y'All/Loud Y'All" golf paddle, and the Redbirds will be auctioning game-worn golf-themed jerseys and hats with proceeds benefiting the Redbirds Community Fund.
