Buffalo Bisons News Release
SYRACUSE, NY- Hyun-Jin Ryu dazzled over six innings of work, while Spencer Horwitz continued his strong week at the plate, as the Buffalo Bisons defeated the Syracuse Mets 4-2 Friday night at NBT Bank Stadium.
The Herd got things rolling early in the top of the first inning, as Otto Lopez would reach first base on a throwing error by Syracuse's Jonathan Arauz. This allowed Addison Barger to score, giving the Bisons an opening 1-0 lead.
Following a couple scoreless innings, Buffalo would pick up right where they left off. With bases loaded in the top of the fourth, Nathan Lukes got hit by a pitch, advancing Rafael Lantigua home and furthering the Bisons lead, 2-0.
The Mets would get on the board in the bottom of the fifth, courtesy of Arauz, whose 14th home run of the season would cut the lead in half, 2-1. That same inning, Jose Peraza tied the game at two apiece, as his first long ball of the year was launched over the left field wall.
In what was his second rehab start for the Bisons this season, Ryu finished with a strong outing. Over the course of six innings pitched, the lefty picked five strikeouts, including the final out that he recorded against Luke Voit. He only allowed two runs on the solo home runs for his second win with Buffalo.
After his two-home run game yesterday, Spencer Horwitz continued his hitting ways in the seventh inning. His line drive single to center field scored Barger, giving Buffalo back the lead, 3-2. In the same frame, Lopez also hit a line drive to center, this time a double, scoring Horwitz and furthering the lead to 4-2.
A combined relief pitching effort by Brandon Eisert, Yosver Zulueta, and Hagen Danner helped the Bisons maintain their lead. The three combined to throw four strikeouts and allowed no runs over the last three innings of the game. The Herd were able to hang on and defeat the Mets, 4-2.
Buffalo and Syracuse will continue tomorrow for game four of a six-game series. Paxton Schultz is set to get the nod for a scheduled 6:35 p.m. start.
