Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
PAPILLION, NEB. - The Omaha Storm Chasers entered the ninth inning trailing by two runs but stormed back to score three runs and beat the St. Paul Saints 5-4 on a walk-off double from Logan Porter.
The Storm Chasers took an early 2-0 lead in the third inning on back-to-back RBI singles from Samad Taylor and John Rave, giving starter Cole Ragans early run support.
Ragans cruised through four scoreless innings with just two hits allowed and five strikeouts but ran into trouble in the fifth inning, as the left-hander allowed the first four batters of the inning to reach base.
Jackson Kowar followed Ragans and allowed all three inherited runners to score, putting St. Paul up 4-2 in the fifth inning. After Kowar allowed a go-ahead two-run single, the Saints did not record a hit the rest of the night, held to just two walks over the final 4.2 innings.
Kowar fired a 1-2-3 sixth inning, retiring his last five batter of the game, then Brad Keller threw a scoreless seventh to keep Omaha within two.
Christian Chamberlain pitched the eighth and ninth innings and faced the minimum, at one point striking out four consecutive batters.
After scoring a pair of runs in the third, Omaha left five runners on over the next five innings and entered the bottom of the ninth trailing by two with three outs to work with.
Tyler Gentry opened the bottom of the ninth with a walk, then Adeiny Hechavarría doubled to put two runners in scoring position with just one out. Taylor singled in Gentry to move the deficit to just one run and stole second base, then St. Paul intentionally walked John Rave to load the bases for Porter.
With still just one out in the inning, Porter lined a double to left-center that scored Hechavarría and Taylor for a 5-4 win, Omaha's second walk-off victory of the week.
With a trio of singles and two runs batted in, Taylor stole two bases in the win while CJ Alexander and Clay Dungan each stole a base to bring Omaha to 163 steals this season.
The Storm Chasers return to action Saturday at 7:05 p.m. CT with right-hander Max Castillo scheduled to pitch for Omaha.
