Rysavy Learns from World Junior and NHL Experiences

Moose Jaw Warriors News Release

Martin Rysavy was on the ice a lot over the summer, representing his country on the international stage and then hitting the ice with his NHL team.

The 19-year-old import forward returned to Moose Jaw last week and is ready to hit the ground running with the Warriors.

"Pretty excited," Rysavy said. "We have a great team, so it's great to be back with the boys, play some games, so really excited about that."

Rysavy's busy summer saw him suit up with Czechia at the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship, finishing with two goals as he helped to a fourth-place finish in the tournament.

After that, Rysavy returned home for a short stint before travelling to Columbus to take part in training camp with the Blue Jackets.

"It was probably the busiest summer I had," Rysavy said. "It's fun to play hockey with these guys, every game, every practice was such a fun experience for me."

Rysavy scored the first goal of the tournament and also scored a shorthanded marker during a round robin showdown with Canada.

"That was pretty fun, scoring in Rogers [Place] at the World Juniors was something good," Rysavy said.

He said representing his country came with pressure, but it helped him grow as a player.

"It's an experience to be more professional," he said. "It was such an exciting time and I just hope it will continue this Christmas time."

The busy offseason continued for Rysavy last month when he travelled to Columbus for his second training camp with the Blue Jackets.

A seventh-round pick by Columbus, Rysavy said he felt more comfortable heading into their camp with previous experience under his belt.

"I know what it looked like, how we do all the workouts, the practices, so I was ready for it," he said. "It was pretty enjoyable."

After getting a taste of the World Juniors and more experience at the NHL level, Rysavy said he's coming into this season with the Warriors as a more confident player.

"I was practicing pretty much all summer, but you have to take care of your body, so you have to be smart and listen to your body more," he said.

Rysavy finished his first season in Moose Jaw with eight goals and 26 points in 45 games.

He said he's excited about what the team can accomplish this season.

"We have a great team, I'm so excited about this season," Rysavy said. "I know how it works here, so now it's up to me just to play the right way."

Rysavy has one assist in two games for the Warriors.

Moose Jaw returns to the ice for two games this weekend. The Warriors host Winnipeg on Saturday and then travel to Saskatoon to face the Blades on Sunday.
