Swift Current Broncos News Release
Swift Current, Sask. - The Swift Current Broncos (2-3-0-0) gave up a lead in the final minutes of regulation, but Kayden Sadhra-Kang salvaged the victory by scoring the overtime winner, giving the Broncos a 5-4 win over the Prince Albert Raiders (2-3-2-0) Friday night.
Prince Albert jumped ahead just under five minutes into the game on the power play. Sloan Stanick tried to sweep the puck across the crease, but it deflected off the stick of Josh Fluker and floated over Gage Alexander's glove to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead.
The Broncos tied the game in quick fashion thanks to a strong forecheck. Josh Filmon and Clarke Caswell combined to steal the puck behind the Raiders net and Filmon's shot from the right circle was stopped. Caswell jumped on the rebound and slid it past Max Hildebrand to tie the game at one.
The Raiders didn't waste any time regaining their lead as Carson Latimer scored just four seconds into a power play a minute after Caswell's goal to make it 2-1. Raphael Pelletier once again pulled his team even with a power play goal of his own, batting the puck out of mid-air to send the two teams into the intermission tied at two.
Swift Current then rattled off two more power play goals in the second period, the first of which was Filmon on a one timer from the right circle. After a four-on-four sequence ended, the Broncos had a brief 23 second power play, but that was all they needed as Mathew Ward spotted Connor Hvidston heading to the back post and fed him the puck to make it 4-2 Broncos with 5:10 left in the second period.
Prince Albert cut the deficit in half in the final minute of the period as Stanick scored his second of the game on a shot from the lot and the Broncos carried a 4-3 lead into the intermission.
The game remained 4-3 throughout the majority of the third period, including a 57 second five-on-three power play for the Broncos, before Prince Albert tied the game with the extra attacker on.
After holding the puck in on a clearing attempt, Stanick backhanded the puck across the crease to Keaton Sorenson who shoveled it past an outstretched Alexander to tie the game with 1:46 remaining.
The Raiders were called for tripping with 1:12 left in the game, but the Broncos couldn't score before the final buzzer sounded, or on the remaining 48 seconds of power play in overtime.
There wasn't a single whistle in the extra frame as the two teams played four-on-four until it was over. Grayson Burzynski had the puck at the bottom of the left circle and saw Sadhra-Kang heading to the back post, firing it toward the crease and it was redirected in by the Broncos defenceman, securing the extra point.
The Broncos now head to Regina for the first of six meetings with the Pats (3-4-0-0) tomorrow night.
Announced attendance was 1,680.
