Cougars Battle Giants in First Road Game of Season

Tonight, at the Langley Events Centre, the Prince George Cougars kick off their first road swing of the season, beginning this evening against the Vancouver Giants at 7:30. The Cougars are coming off a 5-1 loss last Saturday night against the Kelowna Rockets. Chase Wheatcroft had the lone goal for Prince George, while Ty Young made 34 stops in the setback.

Season Leaders: Koehn Ziemmer (3-2-5) Riley Heidt (2-3-5) Hudson Thornton (2-3-5)

KZ13: It has been a productive four games for forward Koehn Zimmer. The Mayerthorpe, AB product leads the Cats early on in goal scoring with three, and has collected two helpers. Ziemmer was able to assist on the lone Cougars goal this past Saturday against the Kelowna Rockets. The 2023 draft eligible forward had an incredible 2021-22 campaign, scoring 30 times.

WELCOME BACK TYLER: The Cougars got another massive part to their group earlier this week, as Tyler Brennan has returned to the BC Northern Capital after attending the New Jersey Devils camp. Brennan, from Winnipeg MB, heard his named called by the Devils this past summer at the NHL Draft, going in the fourth round. Brennan recorded four shutouts last season with Prince George and currently sits sixth all time in franchise history in shutouts, with five.

Last Game: A 6-4 loss against the Seattle Thunderbirds in Seattle on October 1st.

IN THE PIPES: The Giants recently got back netminder and Vegas Golden Knights draft pick (2020, 5th round) Jesper Vikman. The 20-year-old goaltender from Stockholm, Sweden has suited up in two games this season for the G-Men, sporting a 1-1 record, with a 3.04 goals against average. In the 2021-22 campaign, Vikman went 17-15-2 with a 3.05 goals against average, along with a .903 save percentage.

TY THORPE: Another 20-year-old who has had a terrific start for Vancouver is forward Ty Thorpe. Thorpe, from Brandon MB has already amassed five points in four contests for the G-Men (3-2-5). Thorpe has spent his WHL career with both the Giants and the Brandon Wheat Kings, and recently surpassed the 200-games played mark.
