
Pats Start Three Game Homestand vs. Winnipeg

Regina, Sask. - The Regina Pats host the Winnipeg ICE, as the club begins a three game homestand tonight at 7:00 p.m. inside the Brandt Centre.
The Regina Pats come into today's game with a 3-3-0-0 record, while the Winnipeg ICE are 4-0 on the young season. The Pats are coming off a 3-1 win over the Brandon Wheat Kings on Wednesday to snap the clubs two game losing-streak.
Matthew Kieper was the difference in net for Regina, making a career best 51 saves on 52 shots. Alexander Suzdalev scored his first career two goal game, while Tanner Howe chipped in with the games second marker, which was the go-ahead goal in the second period. The final shots were 52-27 for Brandon, while the Pats went a perfect 1-1 on the power play and 4-4 on the penalty kill.
On the other side, the Winnipeg ICE are coming off a 5-2 win over the Medicine Hat Tigers on Saturday. The ICE are in the mix of a 13 game road trip to start the year as their first home game will be Saturday, October 29 against Brandon. In their victory, they came back from a 2-1 deficit before scoring four unanswered goals to win. Conor Geekie's first career multi-goal game was a hat-trick for the ICE while Ty Nash (2A) and Skyler Bruce (1G-1A) also posted multi-point games.
The final shots were 34-23 for Medicine Hat, and 14-7 Tigers in the third. Winnipeg went 1-4 on the power play and 3-3 on the penalty kill.
The Winnipeg ICE are coming off a 2021-22 season where the club went 53-10-3-2 with 111 points, finishing first in the entire WHL before losing in Eastern Conference Finals to the Edmonton Oil Kings. Their 53 wins and 111 points were franchise records. Matthew Savoie and Conor Geekie were drafted ninth (BUF) and 11th overall (ARZ) in the 2022 NHL Draft.

Sam Oremba makes his official return to Regina tonight, as he makes his home debut at the Brandt Centre after the Pats acquired the 2005-born forward on Tuesday from the Seattle Thunderbirds in exchange for 2023 2nd, 2024 1st and a 2025 3rd. The Regina, Sask. product scored 14 points (4G-10A) in 56 games last year in Seattle.
The Regina Pats goaltender Matthew Kieper made 51 saves on 52 shots on Wednesday, becoming the first Pats goaltender to make 50+ saves in a win since Feb. 20, 2013 when Matt Hewitt stopped 53 shots in a 3-2 victory over the host Edmonton Oil Kings. The last Pats goaltender to face 50+ shots in an outing was Max Paddock on January 1, 2019 in a 5-3 loss to the Prince Albert Raiders.
The Pats are dealing with several injuries, as Zack Stringer, Cole Dubinsky, Logan Linlater, Zane Rowan and Jakob Brook are out of the lineup for today's game.
