Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, MB - The Saskatoon Blades capitalize on their chances Friday leading to a 5-3 Wheat Kings loss.
It was a see-saw battle Friday night with each club trading goals back and fourth. It started with Egor Sidorov finding the puck right in the slot making no mistake only 4:38 into the game to make it 1-0 Blades. 5 minutes later the Wheat Kings would respond with Jake Chiasson taking a breakaway pass from Nolan Ritchie allowing Chiasson to beat Austin Elliott five hole to tie it up. Egor Sidorov would restore the one goal lead for the Blades with under 8 minutes remaining in the first after holding pressure inside the Wheat Kings zone for a period of time to make it 2-1. The Wheat Kings would tie it up on the powerplay after Brett Hyland one timed a pass from Nolan Ritchie to make it 2-2. At the end of the period Aidan De La Gorgendiere would score with only .02 seconds remaining to make it 3-2 after the first.
The Wheat Kings would find a way to tie it up again after Teydon Trembecky would find Ritchie loose with speed allowing Ritchie to fire a pass to Jake Chiasson for a tip in goal to tie it up at 3 near the midway mark of the 2nd period. Once again Egor Sidorov would get his team back on the board with a powerplay blast scoring his 7th of the season and the hattrick to take a 4-3 lead with only 1:58 remaining in the 2nd period.
The Wheat Kings would have their chances in the third frame but would allow an empty net goal from Conner Roulette to give the Blades a 5-3 win.
Wheat Kings Coach Don MacGillivray thought his club was sloppy tonight "We were playing behind the whole night. The goals against were self inflicted and then we had missed opportunities where we either miss the net or hit posts. It was a game where we were forced a play a different style. The Blades forced us into some foot races and we got beat to pucks tonight but in the end this was another game I thought he had a chance to win an we let it slip through our fingers".
3 Stars
Egor Sidorov (3 Goals)
Nolan Ritchie (3A)
Conner Roulette (1G-2A)
The Wheat Kings begin their 8 game West Coast Road Trip. It all begins Monday afternoon when the Wheat Kings face off against the Calgary Hitmen. Puck drop at 2:00pm CST from the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary. Fans can catch the game on Q Country 91.5 starting at 1:45pm PM MB time.
