Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals, affiliates of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings and AHL's Manchester Monarchs, have agreed to terms on one-year contract with goaltender Cody Rudkowsky. The Royals #1 goaltender from last season becomes the seventh player to re-sign with the club from the 2004 Northern Division Championship squad.
"Cody was a key element of our team's success last year. He will provide consistency and outstanding leadership to our hockey club. It's nice to top off our summer of recruiting with the signing of Cody," said an elated Royals general manager Ray Delia.
Rudkowsky, 26, returns to Reading for his sixth season of professional hockey. The Willingdon, Alberta native appeared in a single season career high 46 games last season with the Royals and posted a 24-18-4 record. Nine of Rudkowsky's victories came by way of overtime (3) or shootouts (6). The 6-foot-1, 215-pound goaltender recorded the Royals first playoff win on April 5, 2004 in Johnstown (3-2). In the postseason, he posted a record of 8-6 with a 2.02 goals against average and .937 save percentage. The fans also chose Rudkowsky as the MVP at the annual Reading Eagle Fan's Choice Awards banquet at the conclusion of the season.
Coach Derek Clancey is happy to add more experience to his club, "I am excited to add someone of Cody's experience back to our lineup. The goaltending position is very critical to a team's success which we experienced last season in the playoffs."
The Reading Royals are entering their fourth season in Reading, Pennsylvania after relocating from Columbus, Ohio. The Royals enjoyed their first Kelly Cup playoff appearance last season, claiming the Northern Division Title and were one win away from qualifying for the Kelly Cup Finals.
