Columbia Inferno News Release
COLUMBIA, SC (October 7, 2004) â The Columbia Inferno announce the signing of three rookies for the 2004-2005 season. Forward Kenny Turano and defensemen Erik Eaton and Steve Slaton will join teammates Trevor Demmans, Sean Owens, Mike Roemensky, Aaron Smith, Walker McDonald, Robin Carruthers, Greg Amadio, Bryson Busniuk and Matt Ulwelling.
Turano, 6'2 and 202 lbs, native of Valley Stream, New York spent the last four seasons at Harvard University where he played 94 games and contributed 14 goals, 14 assists and 34 penalty minutes.
"Kenny had an injury plagued senior season at Harvard," said Coach Scott White. "He has decent wheels with excellent size and with him healthy he has the opportunity to get things done at the ECHL level."
Eaton, the 24-year old Larchmont, New York native played his collegiate years with Bowling Green State University. The 6'2, 215lbs defenseman played 77 games with 2 goals and 6 assists along with 70 penalty minutes during his tenure. He did spend some time in the ECHL last season with the Cincinnati Cyclones recording 8 games, 2 goals, 1 assist and 5 penalty minutes.
Coach White said, "Erik played in Cincinnati after his college days in Bowling Green. He has excellent size and has the ability to play forward as well."
Slaton, native of Plymouth, Minnesota, is 5'9 and 185 lbs and a Princeton University graduate. He played in 121 games, recording 7 goals, 28 assists and 126 penalty minutes. Defenseman Slaton played for the Greensboro Generals during the 2003-04 season contributing one assist in three games.
"Steve is a skilled d-man who had a good career in Princeton and got a taste of the ECHL late last season with Greensboro," Coach White said. "He should see some power play time."
