Johnstown Chiefs News Release

Johnstown, PA- Johnstown Chiefs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Toby O'Brien announced today that they have signed rookie forwards Chris Fournier and Matt Reid.

Fournier, 22, played last season with the University of Alaska at Anchorage Seawolves where he scored 14 goals and 32 points in 38 games. The 5'6, 180 LBS native of Anchorage, A.K. transferred to UAA from the University of North Dakota after the 2001-02 season. As a freshman with the Fighting Sioux, Fournier had 4 goals and 13 points in 28 games.

"Chris is a playmaker with some pretty good credentials. Last season he was one of the WCHA's top scorers. We look for him to contribute this season," said O'Brien.

Prior to joining the collegiate ranks, Fournier played in the United States Hockey League with the Lincoln (N.E.) Stars. He is Lincoln's all-time leading scorer with 239 points in 217 games. In 2000-01 he was named USA Hockey Junior Player of the Year and the USHL/Let's Play Hockey Player of the Year. In 2001, Fournier was named USHL all-star game Most Valuable Player. Fournier was also named the Alaska High School Player of the Year after his freshmen season at East High in Anchorage.

Reid, 23, spent the last five seasons with the University of British Columbia. The 5'11, 190 LBS native of Vancouver, B.C. played in 164 career games for U.B.C. scoring 32 goals and 74 points. Reid was U.B.C.'s captain last season.

"Matt has been one of British Columbia's leaders the last couple of seasons. All of our scouting reports have great things about what Matt has to bring to the table on and off the ice," O'Brien added.
