
RubberDucks Fall behind Early, Lose 6-1

Akron RubberDucks News Release
The Bowie BaySox scored two first-inning runs and jumped out to an early lead before pulling away late to defeat the Akron RubberDucks 6-1 Thursday Night at Canal Park.
Turning Point
The Baysox jumped on the board early in the first inning when Tucker Nathans sent a line drive home run to right field. Corban Joseph hit the fourth pitch of the game into right field to start the night with a single before scoring on the home run.
Mound Presence
Adam Plutko (3-2) went 5.1 innings for the RubberDucks. Plutko gave up three runs on six hits and a home run while striking out four. Bowie's starter Joe Gunkel (2-0) pitched a strong seven innings giving up five hits, one run and struck out four batters.
Duck Tales
The Akron offense was able to manage to get one run across the plate in the sixth inning. Todd Hankins ripped a double into left field to lead off the inning for his second hit of the night. Yandy Diaz hit a fly ball to the centerfielder deep enough for Hankins to tag and score from third. The R-Ducks were 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.
Notes
Carlos Moncrief was transferred to the RubberDucks from Columbus. He went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, and outfield assist in his first appearance back with Akron. Todd Hankins ended a 0-for-14 skid and went 2-for-4 with a single and a double. Hankins started at shortstop for just the fourth time in his professional career. Following tomorrow's series finale, the RubberDucks head out for a six-game road trip.

The RubberDucks and Bowie Baysox will play the final game of their four-game series tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. It the RubberDucks "A-Day-Early" Independence Day Celebration with patriotic fireworks presented by First Energy. RHP Terry Doyle (7-1, 2.37) gets the start for the Baysox, while LHP Shawn Morimando (5-7, 3.10) toes the rubber for the RubberDucks.
