Reading Fightin Phils News Release

Reading Fightin Phils closer Stephen Shackleford has been named to the Eastern League Eastern Division roster, the Eastern League and Portland Sea Dogs announced today. Shackleford, who replaces teammate Zach Eflin on the roster due to his selection to the Pan-Am Games, becomes the sixth Reading player selected to the All-Star team for the July 15th All-Star Classic in Portland, Maine.

Shackleford is having a career year in Reading as he has recorded a personal best 16 saves to rank third among Eastern League closers. The right-handed pitcher is on pace to break the Reading franchise record owned by Justin Friend (2012), Wayne Gomes (1996), and Toby Borland (1991).

In 29 appearances for the Fightins, Shackleford is 2-1 with a 2.93 ERA over 30.2 innings of work. He has converted 16-of-17 save opportunities while striking out 37 pitchers to just 14 walks. The 26-year old also ranks third in the Eastern League in games finished with 25.

Signed by the Phillies as a minor league free agent in the offseason, Shackleford originally was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 30th round of the 2010 draft.
