LAST GAME: The B-Mets coughed up a three run lead in the final four innings of their 5-4 loss against Erie Wednesday night at Jerry Uht Park. Matt Koch allowed the final two runs in 1/3 of an inning, for his fourth blown save of the year. Gavin Cecchini had two hits and an RBI, while Eudy Pina went 3-for-4.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Gabriel Ynoa is making his 14th start of the season and the first this season against Erie. Ynoa faced Erie four times in 2014, going 2-0 with a 4.38 ERA. He won both starts at Jerry Uht Park, pitching to a 2.13 ERA in the outings. Ynoa is coming off a complete game loss, allowing one earned run in eight innings in a loss at Akron. It was his longest outing in nearly two years. Ynoa has allowed four total earned runs in his last three starts, the best stretch of his season. Binghamton is just 2-6 in his last eight starts.
ERIE STARTER: RHP Austin Kubitza is making his 15th start of the season and the first of his career against Binghamton. Kubitza allowed a run in seven innings against Altoona in his last outing, earning a no-decision. Erie has won five of his last six starts. Kubitza has pitched to a 6.16 ERA in his last 10 starts, allowing an opposing batting average of .327. The righty has a 5.61 ERA in six starts at Jerry Uht Park this season. Lefties are batting .339 against the starter.
THREE IS A MAGIC NUMBER: Eudy Pina has seven hits in his last nine at-bats. He has registered three or more hits in three of his last four games. It's the first time Pina has had three or more hits in back-to-back games in his seven year career.
CLOSING TIME: Paul Sewald and John Velasquez have served as the two B-Met closers this season. Combined, they have converted 22 of 24 save opportunities. The rest of the bullpen has blown eight of 10 save opportunities, with 23 holds. Matt Koch is 0-for-4 in save opportunities after getting saddled with the loss Wednesday night.
J-ROD: Josh Rodriguez was one of four B-Mets selected to the EL All-Star game. He currently leads the league with 13 home runs and ranks second with 50 RBI. Rodriguez is also third in the league in slugging percentage. J-Rod is a career .217 hitter in 27 games at Jerry Uht Park. His home run against the SeaWolves at NYSEG Stadium earlier this season was the first of his career in 54 games against Erie.
STARTING ROTATION: The B-Mets starting rotation has a 2.01 ERA over the last nine games, going 2-3. The bullpen has a 7.06 ERA over the last eight games with a 0-3 record.
WARMING BACK UP: Michael Conforto has hit safely in his last four games, going 6-for-17 (.353). He was previously 2-for-18. Conforto reached base in his first 21 games with the B-Mets.
COMING AROUND: Gavin Cecchini is batting .155 in his last 20 games, but has gone 3-for-11 to begin the series in Erie. He had one hit in his previous 16 at-bats.
STRUGGLES: Brandon Nimmo is 1-for-21 since a career-high 14 game hitting streak, in which he hit .383.
BETTER DEFENSE: Binghamton has committed an error in four of their last 12 games. The B-Mets have dropped from leading the league in defensive miscues, to having the fourth most errors this season (78).
BEEN CAUGHT STEALING: Binghamton has been thrown out trying to a steal a base multiple times in four different games this season, the same total in each the 2013 and 2014 seasons.
NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets wrap up their series with Erie Friday night at 7:05 PM. RHP Luis Cessa gets the ball for Binghamton against LHP Josh Turley. Binghamton then returns home for seven games.
