Fightins shut out by Rock Cats

The Reading Fightin Phils (42-37) only recorded three hits as they were shutout 10-0 by the New Britain Rock Cats (42-37) on Thursday night. Reading was shutout for the eighth time this season.

New Britain scored three runs with two outs off Jesse Biddle in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-0 lead. Tom Murphy hit a solo home run and Will Swanner hit a two-run home run. New Britain scored three more runs off Biddle in the bottom of the fourth inning to extend their lead to 6-0.

Jesse Biddle left the game after five innings as he allowed six runs off nine hits with one walk and seven strikeouts. Ethan Martin entered the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. He allowed three runs of four hits with two walks and one strikeout in 2/3 innings as the Rock Cats took a 9-0 lead.

Swanner hit his second home run of the game in the bottom of the eighth inning off Joely Rodriguez to give the Rock Cats a 10-0 lead. Kelly Dugan extended his hitting streak to seven games in the top of the seventh inning with a base-hit. Andrew Knapp extended his hitting streak to six games with a single in the top of the seventh inning with a base-hit.

The Fightin Phils and New Britain Rock Cats will wrap up their series on Friday night. First pitch is at 7:05 pm from New Britain Stadium. Fans can listen to the game on CBS Sports Radio 1240 AM/98-5 FM and fightins.com beginning at 6:05 pm.
