New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. - One day after placing three players on the Eastern Division's squad for the 2015 Eastern League All-Star Game, the Fisher Cats announced two more players will make the trip to Portland, Maine for this year's midsummer festivities. First baseman K.C. Hobson and catcher Jack Murphy will join relief pitcher Danny Barnes, infielder Jorge Flores, and outfielder Dwight Smith Jr. for the game on Wednesday, July 15 at Portland's Hadlock Field.
Hobson, who once attended high school in Nashua, is earning his second straight All-Star nod. He was a mid-season All-Star last year with Dunedin Blue Jays in the Florida State League. Through 72 games this season, Hobson is hitting .260 and has blasted 11 homers, including a grand slam on Tuesday night. The infielder has team-high 41 runs batted in on the season. The first basemen was drafted in the sixth round of the 2006 draft by the Blue Jays and is playing in his first full season with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
Murphy has played with the Fisher Cats for parts of the last five seasons, but he is on pace to surpass the 56 games he played for New Hampshire in 2013. The catcher is making his first All-Star Game appearance in the Eastern League after compiling three home runs and 25 RBI in 51 games for the Fisher Cats. The Princeton grad has also thrown out 31 percent of would-be base stealers. The Blue Jays took Murphy in the 31st round in 2009.
Hobson and Murphy will join Flores, D. Barnes, and Smith, Jr., for the All-Star festivities at Portland's Hadlock Field beginning Tuesday, July 14. The game is slated to begin at 7 p.m. on July 15.
Currently on a seven-game road trip, the Fisher Cats return to Northeast Delta Dental Stadium for the 4th of July holiday weekend. A new homestand begins with an Atlas Fireworks 4th of July Extravaganza on Saturday night. There will be four total fireworks shows during the homestand, plus a Jack Murphy poster giveaway and an Old Man of the Mountain bobblehead giveaway on Tuesday night.
