Royals Notes:
The Royals 3-0 loss to the Trenton Titans on Wednesday completed a four game road trip for the Royals, during which Reading went 2-2-0.
Six of the first seven games for the Royals were played on the road. Reading went 3-2-1 in those games.
The loss in Trenton on Wednesday extended the Royals losing streak to a season high two games, which was snapped with the 7-4 win over the Dayton Bombers at the Sovereign Center on Friday.
In Wednesday's 3-0 loss to Trenton, the Royals suffered the team's first shutout loss of the season.
In Wednesday's game, the Royals out-shot the Titans, 45-29.
The 45 shots on goal by the Royals on Wednesday is a team season high.
Wednesday's game was the second in a three game streak in which the Royals had 40 or more shots on the opponent's goal. (The Royals had 40 shots on Toledo last Sunday, November 6; and on Friday of this week, the Royals out-shot the Dayton Bombers 42-25.) This streak was snapped on Saturday night, when the Bombers out-shot the Royals, 37-20.
The Royals' have out-shot the opponent in five of the nine games played so far this season and have compiled a record of 3-2-0 in those games.
In Wednesday's loss to Trenton, the Titans scored their first two goals in the second period. On Friday and Saturday, the Royals outscored the Bombers by a total of 4-1 in the second period. Over the course of the season, Reading is currently outscoring the opponent in the second period by a total of 13-5.
Wednesday's 3-0 loss to Trenton was the first loss of the season for Royals' goaltender, Cody Rudkowsky, who made 26 saves on 28 shots (one goal was scored into an empty net).
Rudkowsky picked up the win in Saturday's 5-2 victory over the Dayton Bombers. He stopped 35 of the 37 shots he faced that night.
In his win on Saturday night, Rudkowsky also picked up his second assist of the season, getting a helper on the Royals' fourth goal of the game, scored by Doug Christiansen at the 13:58 mark of the second period.
Rudkowsky currently has a record of 4-1-0; a goals against average of 1.98 (which is the sixth best in the league); and a save percentage of .928 (which is the ninth best in the league).
The Royals penalty killing unit kept the Titans off the board in four chances with the man advantage on Wednesday night. This marked the third game this season that the Royals have kept the opponent's power play off the board, and two of those games have been against the Titans.
In Friday's 7-4 win over Dayton, the Bombers went 1-3 on the power play; and in Saturday's 5-2 win over Dayton, the Bombers went 1-7 with the man advantage.
Over the course of the season, the Royals' pk has allowed seven goals in 52 chances against-an 86.5% kill ratio, which ranks third in the league.
The seven goals scored by the Royals in Friday's 7-4 win over Dayton is a team season high.
Reading has scored 31 goals in nine games, a scoring average of 3.44 goals per game-which is eleventh out of the twenty-five teams in the league in that category.
Friday's 7-4 win against Dayton was the second consecutive win for the Royals at the Sovereign Center. This home win streak was extended to three games with Saturday's 5-2 win over Dayton.
The Royals are currently undefeated at home (3-0-0).
Friday's game kicked off a six game home stand for the Royals.
Twelve of the next fifteen games for the Royals will be played at the Sovereign Center.
The Royals scored the first goal of the game in both of the team's wins this week: the 7-4 win on Friday and the 5-2 win on Saturday. The Royals have now scored the game's first goal in six of the nine games the team has played this season and have a 5-0-1 record in those games.
In the Royals' two wins this week, Reading outscored the Bombers 5-2 in the first period.
Over the course of the season, Reading is outscoring the opponent in the first period by a total of 9-4.
Reading's first goal on Friday was scored 18 seconds into the game. This is the second fastest goal in team history to start a game.
The Royals' Cail MacLean scored a goal 10 seconds in against the Peoria Rivermen last season (April 3, 2005; a 2-1 win for the Royals.)
The Royals first goal on Friday was scored by Doug Christiansen, who also scored the Royals' first goal in the 5-3 win over the Dayton Bombers a week ago Saturday (November 5).
Christiansen also scored the game winning goal in Friday's 7-4 win at the 4:55 mark of the third period, while the Royals were on the power play. That was Christiansen's first game winning goal of the season.
Friday's game marked the second time this season that Christiansen has scored two goals in a game against Dayton. (He also scored two goals in the 5-3 win over Dayton on November 5.)
Christiansen also scored a power play goal against the Bombers at the 13:58 mark of the second period of play in the Royals 5-2 win over Dayton on Saturday. That was the Royals fifth goal of the game, and Christiansen's third power play goal of the season. He leads the Royals in that category.
Christiansen leads the Royals with six goals.
Five of Christiansen's six goals have been scored against Dayton.
Royals' defenseman, T.J. Kemp assisted on the Royals first goal on Friday. Kemp also assisted on four other goals in the game, including the game winner-and all three third period goals scored by the Royals.
The five assists tallied by Kemp in Friday's game tied a team record for assists in a single game which was established by Jeff Guiliano in 7-3 win against the Wheeling Nailers on October 11, 2002.
Kemp's also assisted on a goal in Saturday's 5-2 win for the Royals, giving him six points for the weekend and the season.
Kemp leads all defensemen on the Royals in scoring.
The Royals second goal on Friday night, which tied the game at two, was scored by Eric Werner at the 8:31 mark of the first period, while the Royals were on the power play.
That was Werner's third goal of the season, and two of them have been scored on the power play. Werner leads the Royals' defensemen with three goals.
The third and fourth goals for the Royals on Friday night were both scored by Rich Peverley.
This was Peverley's first multi-goal performance of the season.
Peverley also had two assists in the Royals' 5-2 win over Dayton on Saturday. He has now had four multi-point performances in nine games for Reading this year.
Peverley has had at least one point in every game for the Royals this season except the shutout loss to Trenton last Wednesday night.
Peverley is the leading scorer for the Royals with 4 goals and 9 assists for 13 points.
Reading's sixth goal on Friday night was John Morlang at 7:49 mark of the third period.
Morlang also had an assist in the win on Friday, marking his first multi-point performance of the season for Reading.
Morlang also scored the game's first goal 1:53 into the first period (on the Royals' first shot of the game) in Saturday's 5-2 win over Dayton.
Mike Kompon scored the Royals' seventh goal of the game in Friday's 7-4 win.
Kompon also had an assist in Friday's game, marking his second multi-point performance of the season for the Royals. (He also had a goal and an assist in Reading's 5-3 win over Dayton on November 5.)
- The Royals outscored the Bombers 3-2 in the third period of Friday night's 7-4 win. That was the first time the Royals have outscored the opponent in the third period since the season opener when Reading outscored the Johnstown Chiefs 2-1 in the third period (and won the game 3-2).
o Over the course of the season, the Royals have been outscored by a total of 15-8 in the third period.
- Greg Hogeboom picked up three assists in Friday's 7-4 win for the Royals.
Hogeboom also scored the Royals second goal (3:14 into the first period) in the 5-2 win on Saturday.
Hogeboom added two assists on Saturday night (including the lone assist on the game winner), marking his second consecutive three point performance.
Hogeboom has had four multi-point games for the Royals this season.
On Friday night, the Royals went 2 for 5 on the power play. This marked the second time this season that the Royals have scored more than one power play goal in a single game. (Reading's pp went 2-4 in the first game against the Bombers on Saturday, November 5.)
In Wednesday's game against the Trenton Titans, the Royals went 0-9 on the power play. This marked the second time this season that Reading's power play went 0 for 9-and both times it was against the Trenton Titans. (The first time was in the Royals' home opener on October 29, the 2-1 overtime win over the Titans).
On Saturday, the Royals scored one power play goal in five chances.
Over the course of the season, the Royals have now scored eight power play goals in 48 chances for a 16.7% scoring ratio, which is tied for fourteenth in the league in that category.
Royals' goaltender, Yutaka Fukufuji, picked up his second win of the season for the Royals on Friday night, stopping 21 of the 25 shots he faced.
Fukufuji now has a record of 2-1-1, a goals against average of 3.20, and a save percentage of .907.
The game winning goal on Saturday night was scored by Jon Francisco with 55 seconds remaining in the first period. That was Francisco's first game winner of the season.
Francisco has scored two goals for the Royals this year, and both of them were scored against the Bombers.
The Royals fourth goal on Saturday-which made the score 4-0-was scored by Mike Pandolfo at the 7:33 mark of the second period. That was Pandolfo's fifth goal of the season, placing him second on the team in that category.
Pandolfo has scored his five goals on 32 shots-a 15.6% shooting percentage which leads the Royals.
Pandolfo has had at least one point in six of the nine games for the Royals this season.
Defenseman Chris Barr leads the Royals in plus/minus, playing at a +6 for the season.
