Royals Sign Forward Jeremiah Ketts

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has signed forward Jeremiah Ketts to an ECHL contract. In separate transactions also announced today: (i) goaltender Mark Owuya was assigned by the Maple Leafs from the Marlies to Reading; (ii) forward Dale Mitchell was recalled by the Maple Leafs; (iii) defenseman Marc Cantin was recalled by the Boston Bruins; and (iv) defenseman Ryan Button was recalled by Boston and assigned to the Providence Bruins of the AHL.

Ketts, (5'10/181) (24), who hails from Foristell, Missouri, just finished his senior season at Johnson and Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island. This past season, Ketts registered fifty-three points (20g-33a) in twenty-four games with the Wildcats, which translated into a NCAA Division III leading 2.12 points per game. A two-time selection as the ECAC-Northeast Player of the Year, Ketts registered 165 points (64g-101a) in 104 career games with the Wildcats.

For Owuya, who is in his first year of North American pro and hails from Stockholm, Sweden, this is his third trip to Reading, where he has compiled a record of 7-1-2-1 with a 2.78 goals against average and .929 save percentage. Owuya was riding a six game unbeaten streak (5-0-0-1) when he was last recalled to the Marlies from Reading in early January. In seventeen games with the Marlies this year, Owuya has gone 9-5-1 with a 2.07 gaa, and .926 save percentage with one shutout. Cantin was part of a trade by the Boston Bruins yesterday that sent he and Yannick Riendeau to the New York Islanders for forward Brian Rolston and defenseman Mike Mottau. In sixteen games with the Royals, Cantin registered six points (1g-5a) and eighteen penalty minutes. Mitchell was traded by the Maple Leafs to the Anaheim Ducks for defenseman Mark Fraser. In thirty-five games with the Royals this season, Mitchell recorded thirty-one points (16g-15a) and forty-seven penalty minutes. Button picked up six points (1g-5a) and fourteen penalty minutes in thirty games with Reading.

The Royals return to action on Friday night (March 2, 2012 @ 7:35 pm) when the team will travel to First Arena in Elmira, New York, where they'll kick off fifteen games of hockey action in March with three in a row against the Elmira Jackals. Friday's game night broadcast will start at 7:05 pm with the Red Robin Gourmet Burger Pre-Game Warm-up Show on ESPN Radio 1240 am in Reading. As with all Royals' road games this season, Friday's game will be televised locally in Berks County, Pennsylvania, on BCTV courtesy of Boscov's Travel and the Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines.
