Alaska Aces News Release
Alaska Aces goaltender Adam Courchaine was named the Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Feb. 20-26, the league and the Aces announced on Tuesday. This is Courchaine's second Goaltender of the Week Award this season. He also won the award for the week of Jan. 9-15. The Aces hit the road to begin a three-game weekend in Stockton on Friday night. They return for their final two home games of the season on March 9 and 10 when they host the Colorado Eagles. Tickets for those games are on sale now. Courchaine, 23, was called up to the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League on Monday. However, immediately preceding his return to the AHL, the second-year netminder had a tremendous week in Alaska. Courchaine went 1-0-1 with one shutout, a goals-against average of 0.48, and a save percentage of .983 in two appearances last week against Las Vegas. Courchaine made 20 saves on Thursday in a 2-1 shootout loss to the Wranglers and then stopped all 39 shots he faced in a 5-0 win against them on Sunday to record his third shutout of the season. His three shutouts tie Aces teammate Gerald Coleman and a number of other netminders for second in the league. A native of Kanata, Ontario, Courchaine is 19-10-5 in 34 appearances with Alaska this season. His 19 wins are tied for fourth in the league, and he is fourth with a 2.37 goals-against average.
Under contract to Boston of the National Hockey League, Courchaine has appeared in 63 career ECHL games with Reading and Alaska, posting an overall record of 36-17-7 with seven shutouts, a 2.44 goals-against average and a save percentage of .905.
Prior to turning pro, Courchaine appeared in 126 games over three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with Ottawa, Sarnia and Erie posting a record of 50-60-8 with seven shutouts, a 3.25 goals-against average and a save percentage of .904. He has also appeared in four career American Hockey League games with Providence going 2-1-0 with a goals-against average of 2.06 and a .915 save percentage.
This is Alaska's fourth Goaltender of the Week award this season. In the first two weeks of the season Coleman received the honor.
