October 5, 2015 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Victoria Royals News Release
Victoria, BC- The Victoria Royals will wrap-up their six-game homestand when the Spokane Chiefs make their only visit of the season to Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre tomorrow and Wednesday night. Puck drop for both games is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
A START LIKE NEVER BEFORE: The Royals skate into tonight's match on top of the Western Conference standings with a 4-0-0-0 record, marking the best start in franchise history. Victoria's previous club high was 3-0-0-0, which occurred in the 2012-13 season with a pair of wins against the Vancouver Giants and a home win vs. the Kamloops Blazers.
RECORD SETTERS: Royals' Joe Hicketts and Coleman Vollrath each set records in Saturday's 5-1 win. Hicketts registered three assists and set the new Victoria/Chilliwack franchise record for most assists by a defenceman. The previous mark was held by former Bruin Brandon Manning, who recorded 91 helpers over 200 games played. Hicketts has now tallied 94 assists over 170 games. Vollrath has now tied former goaltender Patrik Polivka for the most wins as a Royal. Both goaltenders have 56 wins while wearing a Victoria sweater. Vollrath, who has spent his entire junior career with the Royals, is currently four wins behind former Bruin Lucas Gore (60) for the most victories in franchise history.
