Portland Winterhawks News Release

Hawks Happenings On The Ice:

Rodrigo Abols scored the first goal of his WHL career when he ripped a shot from the slot past Everett netminder Carter Hart Saturday. After picking up two assists last weekend in Victoria, Abols is tied for the team lead with three points in three games, along with defenseman Keoni Texeira. Abols, a native of Riga, Latvia, was the team's first round pick in the 2015 CHL Import Draft. He suited up for the Vancouver Canucks in their preseason Young Stars Tournament last month.

Saturday's game also saw the 2015 debut of goaltender Adin Hill, who missed both of the games in Victoria due to an upper body injury suffered in warmups prior to the first game. In his first game back Saturday, Hill stopped 24 of the 27 shots the Silvertips took. Hill was a third round selection of the Arizona Coyotes in the June NHL Draft.

Saturday's home opener against Everett was the first of five straight games in Portland, the longest homestand of the season. The Hawks won't play on the road again until Saturday, October 17, when they travel to Kennewick to take on the Tri-City Americans. Their next five road games will all be within the U.S. Division, with the team not leaving the U.S. until November 14 when they travel to Vancouver.
