5 Oil Kings Prospects to Compete in U16 Challenge

EDMONTON, ALTA. - Five Edmonton Oil Kings prospects have been named to compete in the Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup at the end of October in Calgary.

Defencemen Ethan Cap and Jayden Platz, forwards Nicholas Bowman and Benjamin Coppinger and goaltender Lance Alm will all participate in the showcase tournament, featuring 15-year-old players from Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. All five were selected by Edmonton in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft.

Platz, a St. Albert native the Oil Kings selected in the second round, 32nd overall, this spring, and Bowman, Edmonton's sixth round pick, 114th overall, from Sherwood Park will both compete for Team Alberta in the tournament. Platz is a 6-3, 190-pound blueliner, while Bowman measures in at 5-10 and 173 pounds.

Cap, Edmonton's first round selection, 11th overall, will compete for Team B.C. The North Vancouver native is 6-2 and 191 pounds.

Alm was selected 75th overall in the fourth round by Edmonton. The 6-0, 180-pound netminder hails from Rockhaven, SK and will compete for Team Saskatchewan.

Coppinger was Edmonton's 10th round pick, 208th overall. The Winnipeg native stands 5-7 and 155 pounds and will suit up for Team Manitoba.

The Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup will take place from Oct. 28 - Nov. 1 at the Markin MacPhail Center-Winsport in Calgary. Tickets are available at www.whl.ca.
