Reading, PA -The South Carolina Stingrays (10-13-1-0) scored three goals in the second period, but couldn't hold on as they fell to the Reading Royals (14-8-0-0) 4-3 at the Sovereign Center Saturday afternoon. Stingrays defenseman Josh Godfrey scored two goals in the loss.

The Royals grabbed the opening goal of the contest at 17:54 of the first period when forward Devin Timberlake netted his first of the season from forwards Robert Slaney and John Scrymgeour.

Godfrey tied the contest on the power play 1:29 into the second period firing a shot past Royals goaltender Ben Scrivens from the bottom of the left-wing circle. Defenseman Bryan Schmidt and forward Pierre-Luc O'Brien earned the assists. Royals forward Andrew Sarauer reclaimed the lead with a shorthanded tally at 6:50 from forward Casey Haines and defenseman Ryan Donald. Godfrey made it 2-2 on the power play with his seventh goal of the season tapping in a loose puck past Scrivens from forwards Rob Ricci and Matt Scherer.

Stingrays forward David de Kastrozza gave the Stingrays their first lead of the night with an unassisted goal at 16:27. With under a minute to play in the period, Royals forward Ben Gordon knotted the game back up with his eighth goal of the season from defensemen Dallas Jackson and Louis Liotti at 19:13.

Defenseman Todd Perry put the Royals up for good at 13:51 of the third period from Scrymgeour and Timberlake.

Stingrays goaltender Todd Ford received the loss stopping 32 of 36 Royals shots. Scrivens earned his seventh win of the season pushing away 30 of 33 Stingrays opportunities. The Stingrays ended the afternoon 2-for-3 on the power play while the Royals went 0-for-2.

The Stingrays complete their three-game road trip tomorrow, Sunday, December 12 when they travel to the Sun National Bank Center to battle the Trenton Devils at 4:00 p.m. Catch all the action live on Fox Sports Radio 1450 and www.stingrayshockey.com .
