Glads Drop Fifth in a Row, 8-3 to Wheeling

JOHNSTOWN, PA - The Gwinnett Gladiators dropped their fifth game in a row Saturday night, losing 8-3 to the Wheeling Nailers.

The Nailers (13-10-0) are on a four-game winning streak and beat Gwinnett (12-9-4) by a combined score of 15-5 the past two nights.

For the second night in a row Wheeling opened up a 3-0 lead in the first.

Ryan Schnell's first of the season at the 5:00 mark made it 1-0, while Sebastian Bisaillon added a tally at 12:08 and Andrew Orpick made it 3-0 at 12:08.

The Gladiators responded less than a minute later at 12:46, with Dan Kissel scoring his seventh on the powerplay with an assist to Pat Galivan.

Wheeling answered at 14:53 on a goal by Mikael Bedard, but the Gladiators cut the deficit to two thanks to Tim Miller's sixth with assists to Galivan and Aaron Bendickson.

The only goal in the second period came on Orpik's second of the night, assisted by Jason DeSantis on the man advantage at 16:31. The Glads headed into the third down 5-2.

Wheeling wasted no time securing the win. Nick Peterson and Kris Vernarsky scored within the first three minutes of the third. Matt Krug made it 7-3 at 5:25 assisted by Colbert and Miller.

Alexander Smigelski scored a goal late at 13:59 to cap an 8-3 Nailers win.

The Gladiators next game is Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. at Greenville.
