
Nailers Win Fourth Straight, Defeat Gwinnett 8-3

JOHNSTOWN, PA -- Ryan Schnell scored twice to help lift the Wheeling Nailers to an 8-3 victory over the Gwinnett Gladiators at the Cambria County War Memorial Saturday night. The win is the fourth straight for Wheeling, who now improve to 13-10 on the season.
For the second night in a row the Nailers raced out to a 3-0 lead. The first goal of the game served as the first goal of the season for Ryan Schnell. Schnell crashed the net, knocking in the rebound off of a jason Desantis shot. Nailers took a 2-0 lead on a turn around slapshot goal by Sebastien Bisailion at 11:01. A little more than a minute later, Andrew Orpik won a foot race out of his own end, and took took of on a breakway. Orpik fired a backhand shot past Gwinnett goaltender Chris Carrozzi to give Wheeling a 3-0 lead.
Gwinnett responded on Dan Kissel's seventh of the season. However, Wheeling immediatley responded as Mickael Bedard broke in the zone on the left wing, and fired a shot past the shortside post which made it a 4-1 margin. Tim Miller pulled his team within two at 17:17 of the first period.
Nailers assumed their third three-goal lead of the game on the power play. After a faceoff win in the zone, Jason Desantis fired a slapshot from the point which was tipped past Carrozzi by Ryan Schnell, to make it a 5-2 score. Wheeling added to the lead in the third with goals from Petersen, Vernarsky, and Smigelski to secure the 8-3 victory. Wheeling outscored Gwinnett 15-5 n the two game weekend series.
The win now puts the Nailers in first place of the North Divsion. Goaltender Mattais Modig earned his second win of the season making 32 saves. Defenseman Jason Desantis finished with three assists on the night.
