Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
ESTERO, FL - The Greenville Road Warriors used a great special teams effort to take down the Florida Everblades by a 5-2 score at Germain Arena on Saturday night. The win improved the Road Warriors' record to 18-5-2 on the season.
After going 0-for-8 on the power play in the first two games in Florida this week the Road Warriors quickly remedied that problem. With Florida taking two penalties 18 seconds apart the Road Warriors went to work on a lengthy 5-on-3 advantage. With an accurate wrist shot Julien Brouillette potted his 10th goal at 7:17 with assists from Blake Parlett and Mark Voakes. Florida battled back to tie it 2:54 later on a tip-in goal by Ross Carlson with assists from Mitch Fadden and David Fischer. Dov Grumet-Morris made eight saves in the period for Greenville while Jaroslav Janus turned in seven for the 'Blades.
In an eventful second period the Road Warriors picked up a pair of goals and had the all-important lead heading into the second intermission. In a four-on-four situation Voakes took a loose puck off of the far wall and walked it to the slot. A low, hard wrist shot found its way behind Janus at 5:07. The unassisted goal was Voakes' 12th of the season. Later, Greenville's power play went back to work with Brouillette notching his second goal of the night. Voakes and Parlett teamed up to set up the goal for the second time in the game with the score coming at 7:23. Florida was able to chip away at Greenville's lead with a power play goal of its own from Alex Imbeault at 9:46. Grumet-Morris stopped seven shots in the period while Janus turned away 12.
Greenville's special teams came through in a big way in the third period with a power play goal and a shorthanded goal to seal the victory. After killing off a slashing minor to Cullen Eddy the Road Warriors were given a power play when Evgeny Timkin was whistled for slashing at 14:25. Greenville capitalized with Brandon Wong redirecting a pass from Blake Parlett at 15:23. The goal was Wong's sixth of the season and second in as many nights. With Florida pressuring late in the frame Sam Klassen took a hooking minor with 1:02 left to play. Florida pulled Janus for the extra attacker, but Connor Shields potted the empty-net shorthanded goal to ice the win with 42 seconds left to play.
Grumet-Morris finished with 25 saves in winning his 10th game of the season. Greenville went 3-for-8 on the power play and 4-for-5 on the penalty kill.
