Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Kalamazoo, MI-For the second time in the last seven days, the Kalamazoo Wings tied a contest with less than five seconds remaining and go on to win in overtime, this time a 6-5 extra session thriller at Wings Stadium versus the Toledo Walleye.

Combining for five goals, there was no lack of scoring in the opening period. The Walleye pulled ahead early in the period scoring twice in the first 6:20 of the game with goals from Mike Hedden (4th) and Evan Rankin (8th). Six of Rankin's eight goals this season have come against Kalamazoo.

Not to be outdone, the K-Wings bounced back with two goals of their own. Steven Tarasuk found Andrew Fournier 9:22 into the period. Also assisting on the goal was Trent Daavettila, who extended his point streak to 10 games, tying him with Kory Karlander for a K-Wings season-high.

Kalamazoo pulled even midway in the stanza with a tally from Justin Taylor (6th). With the goal, Taylor has earned points in eight of his nine games as a K-Wing and extended his point streak to five games.

Using a power-play to jump back ahead, Sebastien Piche (3rd) deflected a pass from former K-Wing Tyler Doig, who earned two assists in the first period for the Walleye.

Toledo matched their largest lead of the game 5:11 into the second period with Andy Bohmbach's team-leading 10th goal of the season.

Bringing the K-Wings back within a goal less than two minutes later, Fournier earned his second of the night and team-leading 10th of the season on a wrap-around marker.

Winning the battle for the loose puck in front of the K-Wings net, Hedden (5th) netted his second of the night 2:19 into the third period to raise the Walleye advantage back to two goals.

Staying resilient, the K-Wings tried to mount a comeback 11:27 left in regulation with Taylor's second of the night.

In the final three minutes of regulation, a bench minor on Toledo for too many men on the ice, followed by a double-minor on Walleye defenseman Ryan Stokes help pave the way for the dramatic finish.

Skating with an extra skater and on the power-play, Karlander (10th) pushed the rested puck from just outside the crease into the net with nine-tenths of a second remaining to force overtime.

In overtime, the K-Wings remained on the power-play and were able to strike quickly to secure the victory. Sending the crowd home happy, Fournier earned the hat trick 1:19 into the extra session on a rebound for his team-leading 11th tally of the season.

The K-Wing will continue their four-game home stand with the second leg of the stretch on Wednesday, December 15th with a 7 p.m. face-off at Wings Stadium versus the Wheeling Nailers on College Night.
