Elmira Jackals News Release

The Elmira Jackals announced Saturday prior to their 7:35 p.m. home game that they have been assigned veteran defenseman Jamie Fraser by the AHL's Houston Aeros. The Jackals have also received forward Corey Cowick on assignment by their AHL affiliate, the Binghamton Senators.

Fraser, under contract with the NHL's Minnesota Wild, is in his second season with the Aeros after posting 22 points (6g-16a) in 2009-2010 in his first season with the club, third best among the team's defensemen.

The Sarnia, Ontario native spent the majority of three seasons from 2006-2009 with the New York Islanders organization, skating in 179 games with their AHL affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, and collecting 59 points (21g-38a) during that time. Fraser skated in his lone NHL game in the 2008-2009 season with the Islanders.

Fraser has not seen ECHL action since his rookie season of 2006-2007 when he skated in 27 games with the South Carolina Stingrays, notching 28 points (5g-23a) before moving onto the AHL.

During his final season of junior hockey in 2005-2006, Fraser led Sarnia (OHL) defensemen with 42 points (16g-26a). He made his professional debut at the end of that season, playing in three games with the Stingrays.

Cowick has skated in seven games with the Jackals and one game with the B-Sens this season, registering an assist with Elmira along with 15 combined penalty minutes. He had been recalled by Binghamton on Thursday.

The Jackals and the Trenton Devils battle at 7:35 p.m. tonight. For tickets, call (607) 734-PUCK (7825), visit the First Arena Box Office, or log onto JackalsHockey.com.
