Victoria Royals News Release

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Royals are pleased to announce that the club has acquired the rights to defenceman Ty Ettinger (2000) from the Winnipeg ICE in exchange for an eighth round pick in the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft.

The product of Androssan, AB has split this season between the ICE and the Fort McMurray Oil Barons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL). Ettinger has registered one assist in 11 games for Winnipeg and eight points (3g-5a) in 19 games with Fort McMurray.

Over the course of his 88 game WHL career (2017-present), with Winnipeg, the Brandon Wheat Kings and Vancouver Giants, Ettinger had recorded 11 points (2g-9a) and 89 penalty minutes.

The 6-1, 190 lb blueliner was originally selected by Brandon in the fifth round, 95th overall, in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft.

The Royals return to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre today to kick off a four-game homestand. Victoria will host the CHL's third ranked team in the Portland Winterhawks tonight and tomorrow. Portland will welcome goaltender Joel Hofer back to their line-up. Hofer is returning from the 2020 World Junior Championships where he helped Canada win the gold medal. The Tri-City Americans will then come to town for a pair of games on Tuesday, January 14th and Wednesday, January 15th. Puck drop for all four games is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Select Your Tickets box office, over the phone by calling 250-220-7777, or online at www.selectyourtickets.com.
