Kamloops, BC - General Manager Matt Bardsley announced today that the hockey club has acquired 19-year-old forward Tyler Carpendale from the Seattle Thunderbirds in exchange for a conditional 2020 third round WHL Bantam Draft pick.

Bardsley also announced two minor deals involving non-roster players. The Blazers acquired 18-year-old goaltender Brett Balas from the Spokane Chiefs in exchange for a 2021 ninth round WHL Bantam Draft pick. The Blazers also sent 16-year-old defenseman prospect Luke Rybinski to the Medicine Hat Tigers in exchange for a sixth round WHL Bantam Draft pick in 2020.

"Tyler is a player that caught our attention last season," commented Bardsley. "He will give us some additional size in our lineup and plays with good speed along with a heavy game. He is currently rehabbing an injury and will provide us with additional depth in our lineup as we hit the stretch run leading up to the playoffs."

Carpendale has played 81 WHL games over three seasons in Seattle and has nine goals and 27 points. The 6'4" and 200lb forward from Campbell River, BC has not played this season due to injury.

"Brett is a goaltender with experience in the league," said Bardsley. "We wanted to make sure we had an emergency option should something happen to Dylan or Rayce in the second half of the season. Dylan Ernst, our 15 year old signed goaltender, is currently with Team Canada in preparation for the Youth Olympics, so is not available to us for the next few weeks," concluded Bardsley.

Balas has played games with Prince Albert and Spokane in the WHL. He was recently signed by the Fernie Ghostriders of the KIJHL and will be available to the Blazers on an emergency basis.

Rybinski is an unsigned listed defenseman originally selected by the Blazers in the seventh round of the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft.

With the addition of Carpendale to the roster, the Blazers roster is at 23 players including 14 forwards, seven defensemen and two goaltenders.
