Victoria Royals News Release
Portland, OR - The Victoria Royals fell 2-1 in overtime to the Portland Winterhawks on Monday afternoon to conclude three games in three days.
The Winterhawks' Caleb Jones scored the overtime winner when he beat Victoria netminder Griffen Outhouse on a breakaway. Portland's other goal was tallied by Dominic Turgeon in middle frame. The Royals' Ryan Peckford opened the game's scoring in the first period.
With an assist on the Royals' opening goal, Matthew Phillips passed Victoria alumni Logan Nelson for most points by a Royals' rookie with 63 (31g-32a). Nelson previously set the record when he recorded 62 points (23g-39a) during the 2011-12 season. The franchise record is currently held by former Chilliwack Bruin Mark Santorelli who tallied 82 points (29g-53a) in the 2006-07 campaign.
Victoria's Outhouse stopped 24 of the 26 shots he faced. Winterhawks' goaltender Adin Hill made 29 saves on the 30 pucks directed his way.
Neither team was able to capitalize on the man-advantage and held a 0/2=0.0% mark.
The Royals will wrap up their four-game road trip on Wednesday afternoon against the Vancouver Giants with puck drop scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
Victoria returns home for a pair of games vs. the Kamloops Blazers on Friday and Saturday night. Saturday night's game is the Royals' fifth annual Pink in the Rink Night in support of the BC Cancer Foundation. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Select Your Tickets Box Office, over the phone by calling 250-220-7889 or by visiting www.selectyourtickets.com.
