Portland Winterhawks News Release
Caleb Jones scored in overtime to give the Portland Winterhawks (29-25-3-0) a 2-1 win over the visiting Victoria Royals (37-16-3-3) Monday at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in front of 6,723 fans.
Jones's goal came off a 2-on-1 rush, and was just two days after he had an overtime goal overturned after a video review in Seattle.
Victoria scored the lone goal of the first 6:29 into the period on a goal by Ryan Peckford to make it 1-0.
It remained a one-goal game until 13:45 of the second when Dominic Turgeon went hard to net and knocked a rebound over Victoria netminder Griffen Outhouse to get the Hawks on the board and tie the game at 1-1.
It remained a 1-1 game through a hard-fought third period, setting up overtime, where Jones scored his second overtime winner of the season.
Adin Hill was once again terrific in net, stopping 29 of the 30 shots he faced. Outhouse finished with 24 saves on 26 Portland shots.
Turgeon finished with a goal and an assist in the win.
Today's game was a Daylight Classic, with the Coliseum's curtains open to allow daylight into the arena bowl.
