ICE CHIPS: The KOOTENAY ICE enter this week's action with a 10-41-5-0 record (8-18-3-0 at home, 2-23-2-0 on the road, 3-5 in overtime, 1-0 in shootouts) and in sixth place in the CENTRAL DIVISION...The ICE will finish with a record below the .500 mark for the first time since the 1998-99 campaign, ending a WHL record 16 year run of seasons with a .500 or better record (1999-2015)...KOOTENAY, who has earned points in three of the last four games, will embark on a three-game EAST DIVISION road trip beginning February 17 in BRANDON.
ROSTER UPDATE: KOOTENAY is currently carrying 22 players (two goaltenders, seven defensemen and 13 forwards)...The ICE roster is made up of two 1995-born players, two 1996-born players, ten 1997-born players, seven 1998-born players and one 1999-born player...KOOTENAY has ten first-year players on its roster.
PINK THE RINK NIGHT: Join the KOOTENAY ICE and WESTERN FINANCIAL GROUP for PINK THE RINK NIGHT February 26 versus EDMONTON...Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game and join the ICE in taking a stand against bullying...Parents of students in SCHOOL DISTRICTS 5 and 6 can contact their school office for details on how to attend one of our biggest nights of the season!
JERSEY OFF THE BACK NIGHT: The 2016 JERSEY OFF THE BACK NIGHT will take place February 27 when the ICE host the PORTLAND WINTERHAWKS...Fans in attendance will have the opportunity to bid on the black away KOOTENAY ICE game-worn jerseys...The winning bidder of each jersey will get to meet their player after the game and will receive their jersey at the end of the season...All proceeds benefit the KOOTENAY ICE EDUCATION FUND.
DID YOU KNOW: WYATT HOFLIN became the second goaltender in ICE franchise history (NATHAN LIEUWEN) to record 4,000 career saves February 10 against TRI-CITY...MATT ALFARO recorded a new career best for points in a season (34) February 12 against SPOKANE...ALFARO, who registered the shootout winner February 12 versus the CHIEFS, is 3 for 4 in career shootout attempts...Forward ZAK ZBOROSKY has recorded at least one point in nine of his last eleven outings (4-10-14) and has five points in his last two games (0-5-5)...TANNER LISHCHYNSKY has scored in back-to-back games...JESSE ZAHARICHUK is seven games short of 100 career regular season appearances...AUSTIN WELLSBY is six appearances shy of 100 career games played...Forward TANNER SIDAWAY made his WHL debut February 12 against SPOKANE...Six of the last nine away games for KOOTENAY are against teams from outside the CENTRAL DIVISION...ICE goaltenders remain perfect in penalty shots faced this season (two attempts, two saves).
TRANSACTION / INJURIES: KOOTENAY has returned Forward TANNER SIDAWAY (April 29, 1999) to the WESTSHORE WOLVES of the VANCOUVER ISLAND JUNIOR HOCKEY LEAGUE...Forward AUSTIN WELLSBY will be out of the ICE lineup one week with an upper body injury...Forward DYLAN STEWART will be out of the KOOTENAY lineup one week with an upper body injury...Forward JAEDON DESCHENEAU will be out of the ICE lineup indefinitely with an upper body injury.
ONE YEAR AGO: After 56 games of the 2014-15 season the ICE were 28-27-0-1, after 57 games 28-27-1-1 and after 58 games 29-27-1-1.
