Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
It was Family Day. It was retro jersey day. It was bobble hand day. Unfortunately, it was not the Edmonton Oil Kings day.
As they usually do, the Oil Kings proved they can skate with any team this afternoon fighting the Tri-City Americans all the way to the end but ultimately falling 3-1.
"It would have been nice to see some urgency in the third period to reflect the opportunity that was in front of us," said Hamilton. "We just didn't get any sustained pressure on their back end. They seemed to have a lot of time and space to make plays tonight."
The Americans opened the scoring in the second when their leading scorer Parker Bowles took a nice pass from Tyler Sandhu and buried his 32nd on the season past a stretched out Patrick Dea.
Davis Koch answered back later however, when he accepted a beautiful Lane Bauer pass in tight and roofed it for his 5th of the season. Brandon Baddock had the other helper.
The teams went into the third tight checking but it was a shorthanded breakaway goal by Maxwell James 3:34 into the period that was the backbreaker for Edmonton. While on the man advantage defenceman Ben Carroll had the puck put into his skates and lost it for a split second allowing James to take it in uncontested and put it behind Dea.
Jordan Topping sealed the deal for the Americans later in the third sending the large crowd of 10,812 home without a win.
Dea kept his team in contention the entire game stopping 25 of 28 shots, with many point blank and rebound saves while shorthanded.
"If it wasn't for Patrick they could have had a couple more there," said captain Brandon Baddock. "He made some pretty crucial saves and held us in there."
Up next for the Oil Kings is three games in three nights this weekend in Brandon (Friday), Moose Jaw (Saturday) and Regina (Sunday). All the games are on TSN 1260 with Corey Graham.
