Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

Edmonton, Alta. - The Edmonton Oil Kings have punched their ticket to the WHL Playoffs, although that took place early in the first period of Saturday's 4-3 win over the Calgary Hitmen.

Thanks to Regina's win over Moose Jaw, the Oil Kings became the fourth team to clinch a spot in the 2026 WHL Playoffs, but their win later in the night would've also done the same thing.

Just as they did on Friday, the Oil Kings opened the scoring in this game, and it was the same player as Blake Fiddler's 10th of the season opened the scoring. Jaxon Fuder joined in later in the frame for his first as an Oil King to make it 2-0 Edmonton. Ethan Simcoe seemed locked in from puck drop in this one, making 10 saves, including a few on a late first period 5-on-3 penalty kill for the Oil Kings to keep it at 2-0 after one.

Edmonton would keep the pedal down in the second, adding two more goals, one from Kayden Stroeder and another from Miroslav Holinka to make it 4-0 as they outshot the Hitmen 15-6 in the frame.

However, Calgary would push back in the third period, scoring less than a minute in from Blake Vanek to break the shutout bid for Simcoe to make it 4-1. Calgary added two more in the final five minutes on powerplays to make it 4-3, one from Vanek and one from Caine Wilke but the Oil Kings would weather the storm and hold on for the two points and their first win of the season over the Calgary Hitmen.

Edmonton was 1-for-4 on the powerplay in the game and 4-for-6 on the penalty kill. Simcoe made 25 saves in the win.

The Oil Kings are now 35-13-3-2 on the season and host Lethbridge on Monday afternoon.
