Swift Current Broncos News Release
The Swift Current Broncos earned a hard-fought point but fell 4-3 in a shootout to the Brandon Wheat Kings on Saturday night at InnovationPlex.
Swift Current had a great start, striking at 10:18 into the game as Trae Johnson buried his third of the season off feeds from Hyde Davidson and Colton Alain. Brandon responded early in the second with a goal from Grayson Burzynski, but the Broncos answered back at 4:44 when Trae Wilke notched his 16th of the year, assisted by Anthony Wilson and Johnson. Carter Moen extended the lead with a shorthanded marker at 7:24 after a strong defensive breakup, giving Swift Current a 3-1 advantage. The Wheat Kings clawed back late in the period through Jaxon Jacobson to make it 3-2 after 40 minutes.
Brandon carried momentum into the third, tying the game at 1:02 on a goal from Cameron Allard. The Broncos pushed back in a back-and-forth final frame, but neither side could find the winner in regulation or overtime. In the shootout, the Wheat Kings converted on their opening attempt while the Broncos were unable to solve the Brandon netminder, sealing the 4-3 decision.
Brandon outshot Swift Current 37-27, including a 16-5 edge in the third period and overtime. Aiden Eskit was sharp in goal, turning aside 34 of 37 shots. The Broncos went 0-for-1 on the power play while successfully killing all five Brandon opportunities. The Wheat Kings also held the edge in the faceoff circle, winning 45 draws to Swift Current's 26.
With the single point, the Broncos move to 13-35-3-2 on the season and will look to bounce back Monday against the Regina Pats.
