Reading Royals News Release
READING, PA â The Reading Royals, ECHL affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, have announced that they have acquired the rights to forward Mike Souza from Fresno, which completes a trade from October 13, 2003 that sent defenseman Dominic Periard to the Falcons for future considerations.
Souza, 26, began the season with the Florence of the ECHL. In 17 games with the Pride, Souza tallied eight goals and 21 points, along with 29 minutes in penalties. The Wakefield, Massachusetts native has spent the bulk of the season in the American Hockey League with Portland and Bridgeport. The fourth-year pro has made appearances in 35 AHL contests this season accounting for seven goals and 13 points with 27 penalty minutes. Last season, the University of New Hampshire graduate appeared in 64 games with Bridgeport and Norfolk. He posted 9 goals and 17 assists for 26 points and 96 penalty minutes. He also suited up for nine playoff games with the Sound Tigers tallying an assist and 12 penalty minutes. Souza spent his first two professional seasons with the AHL's Norfolk Admirals. He was a third round selection, 67th overall, of the Chicago Blackhawks in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.
The Keystone Cup series heats up this Friday in the Sovereign Center as the Royals battle the Johnstown Chiefs for the ninth time this season. It's Church Night and the game is presented by Redner's Warehouse Markets. If you purchase a ticket to the game, you are eligible to enjoy the post-game concert with Christian group Sanctus Real. Saturday, the Royals host the defending Kelly Cup Champion, Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies. The first 2,000 fans receive Reading Eagle team posters. Be sure to bring a flashlight to the game for the pre-game luminaria ceremony to benefit the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. After the game, meet the Royals at the Outside In Restaurant, just a block up from the Sovereign Center, for a post-game party with the team.
