Koenig re-joins Gulls

SAN DIEGO — Trevor Koenig has returned to the San Diego Gulls after spending the last week on a call-up with the American Hockey League's Cincinnati Mighty Ducks. Eddy Ferhi, who played in all three games last weekend for San Diego, was recalled to Cincinnati.

Koenig, 29, was loaned to Cincinnati on March 4. In one game for the Mighty Ducks, he allowed five goals on 23 shots in a 7-2 setback to the Milwaukee Admirals.

Before his call-up, Koenig appeared in 41 games for the Gulls, posting a 26-6-8 record with a 2.27 goals-against average and .918 save percentage. He's tied for fourth in the ECHL in wins and GAA. Koenig was also selected as the ECHL Goaltender of the Month for January.

The 5-foot-10-inch, 185-pound native of Edmonton Alberta has won 20-or-more games in each of his four seasons with the Gulls, including a career-high 42 in 2001-02. Koenig also backstopped San Diego to the West Coast Hockey League Taylor Cup Championship twice (2001 and 2003).

Koenig is 125-45-19 with 17 shutouts, a 2.37 GAA and .916 save percentage in 196 career regular season games with the Gulls. He's the franchise's all-time leader in GAA, shutouts and save percentage. Koenig is second all-time in appearances, wins, minutes played and saves.

Ferhi, 24, was sent to the Gulls on March 5. In three games for San Diego, he was 1-0-2 with a 3.10 GAA and .901 save percentage.

He's appeared in 14 games for Cincinnati this season, accumulating a 2-10-2 record with a 3.10 GAA and .899 save percentage.

Ferhi began his professional career late last season after spending the previous four years at Sacred Heart University. During his four-year sting it college, the 6-foot-3-inch, 197-pounder from Charenton, France set school records for career GAA (2.63) and single-season GAA (2.27), which he attained during the 2002-03 season. He also tied a Sacred Heart University record with career wins (36) and games played in a season (31).
