Deschatelets Named Pogy\'s/JQC Golf Player of the Month

SAN DIEGO — Sylvain Deschatelets has been named as the Pogy's/JQC Golf Gulls Player of the Month for February. The San Diego center will be honored before the Gulls-Falcons game on Friday.

Deschatelets, 24, earns the February honors after posting 18 points (7g, 11a) in 13 games. He scored at least one point in 11 of 13 games, which included back-to-back three-point games on Feb. 13 against Las Vegas and Feb. 14 against Texas. On Feb. 10 Deschatelets began a career-high 11-game point streak, which ended Saturday in Texas. The 6-foot-2-inch, 210-pound native of Blainville, Quebec also scored four power-play goals and had a plus-minus rating of +5.

In 59 games overall this season, Deschatelets has accumulated 63 points, matching a career high that he set last season. He leads the club with 44 assists (also a career high) and is third on the team with 19 goals. His 63 points is second only to Mark Pederson, who leads the Gulls with 67 points.

Last season, Deschatelets notched 63 points (23g, 40a) in 65 games. He led San Diego with 40 assists and ranked first in the West Coast Hockey League with nine shootout goals.

This is his fourth professional season and second full season with San Diego. He made his pro debut with the Gulls during the 2000 WCHL playoffs. Deschatelets has also played for the East Coast Hockey League's New Orleans Brass and United Hockey League's Adirondack IceHawks. He's also played five games in the American Hockey League.

Deschatelets will be signing autographs in the Sports Arena's "Arena Club" after Friday's game against Fresno.
