Royals Blanked By Titans, 3-0

November 9, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release

Trenton, NJ - For the second game in a row, the Reading Royals (4-2-1=9) had a significant advantage in shots on goal with respect to their opponent, but for the second game in a row, the Royals end up the victim of a virtually flawless goaltending performance, losing to the Trenton Titans, 3-0. In tonight's game, the Royals fired 45 shots at the Titans' goaltender, Martin Houle, including 17 in the final period, but could not find pay dirt.

After a scoreless first period, Trenton's Chris Thompson scored what proved to be the game winner at the 4:36 mark of the second period, when he floated across the slot and ripped a high, hard snap shot that beat Royals' goaltender, Cody Rudkowsky (3-1-0), high to the glove side. With 2:03 remaining in the second, Mathieu Brunelle provided some insurance when he slid a puck underneath Rudkowsky from the top of the crease after a nice pass from behind the net by Scott Bertoli. Thompson added an empty netter with just 4.6 seconds remaining in the game to ice things after the Royals had poured the pressure on Houle as the third period wound down.

In this game, the woes of the Royals power play continued with Reading failing on all nine opportunities the team had with the man advantage against the best penalty killing team in the ECHL. In two games this season, the Royals have now had eighteen power play chances against the Titans and are yet to score against them with the man advantage.

After playing six of the team's first seven games on the road, the Royals schedule now takes a decided turn towards home. The next six games for the Royals, and fourteen of the next seventeen, are at Reading's Sovereign Center. On Friday night, when the Royals take on the Dayton Bombers (7:00 pm), the team will give away magnetic schedules courtesy of Papa John's Pizza. On Saturday night, the Royals are at home again against the Bombers (7:00 pm) and will give away the first in a series of five pint glasses in honor of the team's fifth anniversary season courtesy of Labatt's Blue and All-Star Distributing. All of the Royals games can be heard on ESPN Radio 1240 am and on the internet at www.royalshockey.com with the pre-game show beginning 30 minutes before the opening faceoff.
