Fresno Falcons News Release

LAS VEGAS - The Fresno Falcons suffered their first road loss of the season last night when Dan Tudin scored two goals and added two assists to lead the Las Vegas Wranglers to a 5-2 victory at The Orleans Arena in a game that turned ugly at the end with the two teams combining for 96 penalty minutes in the final 11 seconds of the contest.

Tudin scored his first of the evening with an unassisted goal at 5:20 of the opening period, but Fraser Clair answered for Fresno 37 seconds later off a re-direct in front to tie the game at one. Tudin re-claimed the lead for Las Vegas with a shorthanded goal at 15:36 to give his club a 2-1 lead heading to the first intermission.

The Wranglers took control of the game in the second when Matt Dzeiduszycki scored just 43 seconds into the period. Fresno yielded a season-high 18 shots against during the period and fell behind 4-1 when Dustin Johner tallied at 11:12 on the power play. The Falcons' Brett Hammond gave his team a lift just before intermission, though, when he scored his fourth of the campaign with under a minute to play, slicing Las Vegas' lead to 4-2 through 40 minutes.

Fresno had a pair of power plays in the first six minutes of the third but failed to draw any closer. The Wranglers' Steve Crampton finished the scoring with 1:01 remaining in regulation to give Las Vegas its final 5-2 margin.

Tempers flared and then exploded in the waning moments when a total of five fights broke out following two separate face-offs, culminating with a heated exchange among the coaching staffs between the team benches.

Falcons goaltender Brett Jaeger, who was named the ECHL's Goaltender of the Week yesterday, took the loss despite making 39 saves, as Fresno gave-up a season-high 44 shots on goal.

The loss snapped the Falcons' three-game winning streak, but the club still sits atop the Pacific Division with a six-point lead over the idle Long Beach Ice Dogs and Bakersfield Condors.

The Falcons now return home for a pair of games at Save Mart Center this Friday and Saturday against the Utah Grizzlies and San Diego Gulls, respectively. Single-game tickets for both games are on sale now at all Ticketmaster outlets and Save Mart Center's box office. Prices range from $8 - $23.
