Augusta Lynx News Release
The Augusta Lynx experienced a roster remodeling today with the news that center Jamie Johnson has been recalled by the Iowa Stars of the American Hockey League, while forward Jake Riddle was reassigned to the club from the AHL's Portland Pirates and the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim have assigned center Joel Stepp from Portland as well. The club also announced that they have placed forward Ryan Bennett on waivers.
Stepp, 22, joins the Lynx after playing seven games with Portland this year, where he notched one goal and two points with a +1 rating. Originally selected by Anaheim #69 overall in the third round of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, the 6-0, 210 lb. Stepp began his pro career by playing two seasons with Anaheim's AHL affiliate in Cincinnati. While there, Stepp appeared in 128 games and recorded 10 goals and 26 points along with 51 PIMs. Last season the Estevan, SK also saw action in 12 games with the ECHL's San Diego Gulls, scoring seven goals (7-0-7) in that span.
Riddle returns after seeing action in two games without registering a point, his second stint with the Pirates this season. With the Lynx this season, the 6-2, 212 lb. left wing has a goal and three points in five games.
Johnson, meanwhile, heads to Iowa after strong showings in training camps for both Dallas (NHL) and Iowa (AHL). The 23-year-old Port Franks, Ontario native scored two goals and six points for the Lynx in seven games, and is currently riding a four-game point-scoring streak (2-3-5).
Rounding out the team's transactions for the day, forward Ryan Bennett was placed on waivers. The Queensbury, NY native had a goal and two points in seven games with Augusta to go with a +1 rating and 13 PIMs.
The Lynx will return to the ice this weekend against the Columbia Inferno on Friday night and the South Carolina Stingrays on Saturday night! Both games get under way at 7:05 pm, with the Classic Stucco and Stone Pre-Game Show kicking off one half-hour before game time. Friday night will feature a jersey auction with special camouflage uniforms, while Saturday night is Saturn Night and NASCAR night! For more information or to get your tickets, call (706) 724-4ICE.
