Idaho Steelheads News Release

A three-goal burst in the game's final 12-plus minutes allowed the Aces (5-2-2) to down the Steelheads, 5-2, in Boise on Wednesday night. The victory allowed Alaska to climb within two points of the West Division leading Steelheads (7-2-0).

The Steelheads tallied the only goal of the opening period, on the power play at 2:26 of the frame. Forward David Bararuk picked up his third goal in the last two games as defenseman Brian Fahey added the assist. It was Fahey's second point of the season, in just his second game, as he missed the previous seven matches due to injury. The Glenview, IL native took a point shot that was stopped by Aces' goaltender Matt Underhill. Bararuk was able to get to the rebound and lift a backhander over Underhill for his fifth of the season and his third on the power play.

In the second period, Alaska tied the match on a controversial goal. At 11:08 of the stanza, winger Barrett Heisten threw a shot towards the far post that winger Cam Keith appeared to redirect the puck into the cage with his skate. The even-strength marker was Keith's third of the season.

The Aces took their first lead of the evening with just 44 seconds left in the second period, with a power play goal of their own. Winger Mike Scott had his point shot tipped home by winger Chris Minard to make it 2-1.

After two period of play, the shots were 25-23 in favor of the visitors.

Early in the third, with the home team on a penalty kill situation, Steelheads captain D'Arcy McConvey evened up the match with the team's first shorthanded goal of the season at the 1:24 mark. Garett Bembridge drew the only assist on McConvey's team-leading 6th goal of the season.

Alaska would counter with the next three goals of the game. At 7:45 of the period, the Aces got the game-winning goal from Heisten with the helpers going to Minard and defenseman Ryan Gaucher.

The visitors would make it a two-goal game at 11:31 of the frame on Olivier Filion's first of the season. Scott got the only assist.

Heisten's second of the game came with just 38 seconds left, as he tallied a shorthanded, empty net goal to ice the contest.

The win was the first away from home for Alaska this season, and the first defeat for the Steelheads at Qwest Arena.

Matt Yeats (5-1-0) suffered his first loss of the season, making 34 saves in a losing effort. Underhill (2-2-1) picked up his second win of the year, turning aside 34 shots.

These two teams will be back in action on Friday night with the drop of the puck scheduled for 7:10 PM MST.
