Titans shutout Royals, 3-0

TRENTON, NJ (November 9, 2005) - Chris Thompson tallied two goals and Martin Houle stopped all 45 shots he faced as the Trenton Titans shut out the Reading Royals 3-0 in front of 3,173 at Sovereign Bank Arena.

Despite the fact that Trenton and Reading combined for 28 shots in the first period, neither teame could work the puck past the opposing goaltender.

It wasn't until 4:36 of the second period that the Titans broke the scoreless tie when Chris Thompson stickhandled into the Royals' zone and unleashed a wrist shot that beat Reading goaltender Cody Rudkowsky to the glove side.

The Titans would add an important insurance goal later in the period when Scott Bertoli fed Mathieu Brunelle for a one-timer that snuck past Rudkowsky at 17:57 making the score 2-0 in favor of the Titans.

Houle stopped 17 shots in the third period to record his first shutout as a professional. Thompson added his second goal of the game on an empty-netter with 4.6 seconds left in regulation.

The Titans went 9-for-9 on the penalty kill for the second consecutive game against the Royals, but were 0-for-4 on the power play.
