Greenville Grrrowl News Release

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Greenville Grrrowl of the East Coast Hockey League announced on Monday that JONATHAN ROY has been suspended for leaving the team. The 22-year old Quebec native will pursue another hockey opportunity with a team in Germany.

Roy helped the Grrrowl win the 2002 Kelly Cup Championship last season, and was the team's leading scorer with 33 points in 31 games at the time of his suspension on Monday.

"This is obviously a big loss to our hockey team", said VP of Hockey Operations and Head Coach JOHN MARKS. "I think Jonathan was really coming into his own in this league, and was starting to get some recognition at higher levels, too. It's going to be very difficult to replace a player of his caliber, especially at this time of the season. We're going to need a little extra effort from the players remaining to pick up the slack after the holiday's."

The Greenville Grrrowl return to action Friday, December 27th when they host the Southeast Division-rival Florida Everblades at 7:05 PM (Newsradio 1330 & 950, WORD). Tickets are available at the BI-LO Center Box Office and all TicketMaster outlets. Call (864) 467-GRRR or log onto www.grrrowl.com for more information.
