Hodson Prepares to Play for Team Canada
December 23, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greensboro Generals News Release
Greensboro, NC â The Greensboro Generals of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) will be without the services of goaltender Jamie Hodson through the end of the calendar year, but with good reason. Hodson will represent his native Canada in the Spengler Cup, which is being held in Davos, Switzerland from December 26â31.
The Spengler Cup is a round-robin tournament consisting of five teams, with HC Davos annually hosting the event. The other teams are the Cologne Sharks of Germany, Sparta Prague representing the Czech Republic, Finland's HPS Turku, and Team Canada.
"It's quite an honor to play for your country, and I'm thrilled for Jamie to get this opportunity," says Generals head coach Rick Adduono (ah-DOO-no). "This will be a fantastic experience for him. I'm just glad he'll only miss four games or so. I'll definitely be looking forward to having him back by the first of the year."
Hodson, 22, is 6-3-1 for the season, including winning his last five decisions. He is currently second in the league with a 2.40 goals against average and leads the league with a .937 save percentage. Hodson, who is property of the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League, is one of two players currently in the ECHL playing for Team Canada in the Spengler Cup, along with Mike Bishai of the Columbus Cottonmouths. Hodson is expected to rejoin the Generals for their game against the Reading Royals on January 2, 2003.
The Generals don't play again until Friday, December 27 when they host the Lexington Men O'War at 7:30. The Generals also host the Charlotte Checkers on December 28 at 7:30, with the Generals taking home the Carolina Cup for the first time ever if they win that game in regulation. Ticket prices range from $10.00 - $17.00, with tickets as low as $8.00 for students and seniors. Generals Flex Plans for six, twelve, and 18 games are also available for as little as $50.00.
