LAST WEEK:
12/18 COLUMBIA 3, GREENSBORO 4 ¨ The Generals spotted the Inferno a 2-0 first period lead, but charged back late to earn the victory on "Teddy Bear Toss" night. Sam Ftorek ignited the comeback and the bears with a goal with 13 seconds remaining in the first period to cut the deficit to 2-1. It stayed that way until the third period, when the Generals erupted for three more unanswered goals. David Whitworth tied the game with an unassisted goal on a breakaway, and Vlad Serov netted two straight power play goals for a 4-2 lead. Columbia scored with just over a minute left to make it close, but Generals goaltender Daniel Berthiaume, who made 40 saves on the night, made the lead stand up.
12/20 GREENSBORO 6, RICHMOND 3 ¨ Jay Murphy put the Generals on top just 1:14 into the game, but the Renegades quickly knotted the score. With the game tied 1-1 after one period, Greensboro scored three unanswered goals in the second period from Chris Bell, Murphy, and Vlad Serov for a commanding 4-1 lead. Shane Campbell upped the margin to 5-1 in the opening minute of the third period, and following a pair of Renegade goals, Sam Ftorek finished it off with a power play tally. The game turned ugly in the final five minutes, with a total of four players (three Renegades, one General) being suspended for the following night's game.
12/21 RICHMOND 2, GREENSBORO 3 (SO) ¨ For the second time this week, Greensboro had to dig out of a 2-0 hole to earn the victory, sweeping the home-and-home series in the process. Chris Bell got the comeback started midway through the first period, cutting the margin to 2-1. It took until midway through the third period for the Generals to tie the game, with Geno Parrish netting his third goal of the season to force overtime. The Generals had a chance to win the game in the opening minute of the extra session with a penalty shot, but Magliarditi's glove save on Mark Turner kept the Renegades alive, ultimately moving the game to a shootout. The Generals dominated from there, outscoring the Renegades 3-0 in the shootout to earn the victory.
