Peoria's Mathieu Chouinard Named East Coast Hockey League Goalie of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Peoria's Mathieu Chouinard is the East Coast Hockey League Goalie of the Week for December 16-22.

The 22-year-old Chouinard was 2-0 with a 1.00 goals against average and a .955 save percentage in two starts last week. The 6-1 and 211-pound Chouinard made 23 saves, including eight in the third period, in a 2-1 win at Trenton on Tuesday. He closed out the week making 21 saves, including 12 in the first period, in a 2-1 win against Baton Rouge on Sunday.

Under contract to Ottawa of the National Hockey League, Chouinard was selected in the first round (15th overall) by the Senators in the 1998 National Hockey League Entry Draft and again by Ottawa in the second round (45th overall) in 2000.

He is is 7-2-0 with a .922 save percentage and a 2.10 goals against average which would rank second in the ECHL if he had the required minimum minutes. In his last three starts, Chouinard is 3-0 with a 1.33 goals against average and a .950 save percentage.
